BankBoston (now Bank of America) was looking to experiment with selling consumer banking accounts online as part of their larger migration to internet based transactions. The first attempt in 1998 was the Online Account Opening tool that provided advice and the ability to open checking, savings, and CD accounts online. I incorporated in-context help, product up-selling, and a simple step by step process to guide customers to the right account for their needs.
